ATLANTA (January 16, 2013) – Sen. Buddy Carter (R-Pooler) has been named Chairman of the Senate Public Safety Committee for the 2013- 2014 term by the Senate Committee on Assignments.
“I am honored to be selected as the Chairman of such a crucial committee,” said Sen. Carter. “The safety of our constituents is a top concern and deserves adequate attention and care from the legislature. I intend to pass legislation that protects the citizens of Georgia and provides preventative measures for safety concerns.”
The Public Safety Committee addresses issues such as all legislation concerning the maintenance of the security and well-being of Georgia’s citizens from physical violence or danger will be assigned to the Public Safety Committee. Additionally, the committee handles most legislation related to licensing of drivers and safety on Georgia’s roads.
Sen. Carter was also selected to serve as a member of the Appropriations, Health and Human Services and Higher Education Committees.

Once a piece of legislation is introduced in the Senate, it is assigned to a Committee, depending on its topic. If the Committee gives the legislation a “do pass” recommendation, then the proposed law is sent to the Rules Committee for consideration. The appointed chairs will oversee the operation and order of Senate committee meetings, including calling for action on bills, resolutions or other matters assigned to that committee.
The first term of the 152nd Legislative Session of the Georgia General Assembly convened January 14, 2013 at the Georgia State Capitol.
