ATLANTA (July 17, 2012) – Sen. Valencia Seay (D-Riverdale) joined fellow leaders from the National Black Caucus of State Legislators (NBCSL) for a two-day conference in Washington, D.C. From July 11 – 12, Sen. Seay engaged with Congressional and state legislators in policy panel sessions.
“This experience helped strengthen relationships between the federal government and Georgia,” said Sen. Seay. “It created a sense of community across state lines with other legislators to help one another shape beneficial public policy. I’m excited to bring home new ideas to promote economic development and equality in Georgia.
The conference centered on five legislative priorities selected from policy resolutions ratified during NBCSL’s recent Annual Legislative Conference. These NBCSL 2012 Legislative Priorities, titled “Investing in the Future of the American Economy,” offer a multi-faceted strategy for ensuring an economic recovery in which our fiscal priorities and investments pay long-term dividends to future generations. These priorities include stabilizing the state economies, healthcare reform, innovation and technology, energy and education.
Sen. Seay took part in a multi-issue policy forum delving into financial literacy, infant and children’s nutrition and wellness, and health information technology. She also collaborated with Federal policymakers to establish a sense of commitment between state legislators and the Congressional and Executive Branch so that innovative solutions can bring about positive results for Georgians and the nation.
