Sen. Nikki Merritt Statement on the Passing of Former President of the United States Jimmy Carter

ATLANTA (December 31, 2024) — Today, Sen. Nikki Merritt (DGrayson), Chair of the Georgia Legislative Black Caucus, issued the following statement in remembrance of former President of the United States, Jimmy Carter:

“My family and I extend my deepest condolences, on behalf of the 9th Senate District, to the Carter family and all who knew and loved him.

President Carter embodied the values of service, humility and compassion. From his humble beginnings as a peanut farmer in Plains to serving as a state senator, Georgia’s 76th governor and the 39th President of the United States, President Carter consistently showed an unwavering dedication to bettering humanity. His post-presidency was equally impactful, and the legacy President Carter leaves behind is one of fierce dedication to public service, peace and the well-being of others.

While President Carter will be deeply missed, his impact endures in the lives he touched and the causes he championed. Our prayers are with the Carter family during this difficult time.”
