Sen. Clint Dixon on Reinstating Mask Mandates

ATLANTA (July 21, 2021) | In response to discussions around reinstating mask mandates, Sen. Clint Dixon (R – Gwinnett) issued the following statement:

“Over the past year and a half, we have learned a lot more about the COVID-19 virus and what we must do to protect ourselves and those around us. As Georgians, we have also proven that we can use that knowledge and common-sense to protect ourselves and loved ones without government mandates. While there has been a slight rise in case numbers nationally, it is not significant enough to warrant hysteria or mask mandates. With this in mind, I fully oppose any mask mandate – including forcing them on our Gwinnett County Public School students.

Reinstating mask mandates and lockdowns isn’t the answer to how we’ll fight this virus – vaccines are. We know the vaccine is an effective tool in putting an end to this pandemic, and it is readily available to anyone here in Georgia that wants it. Additionally, requiring the vaccinated to wear masks contradicts the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines, which state that fully vaccinated citizens are safe to resume activities without a mask.

We trust the science behind these vaccines, and that each and every Georgian is capable of taking the right steps to protect themselves and their families. We must reject nonsensical government mandates and trust individuals and families.”
