ATLANTA (May 29, 2009) — Sen. Jim Butterworth (R-Cornelia) was recently appointed by Governor Sonny Perdue as a member of the Senate Fiscal Affairs Subcommittee. The committee is made up of 11 members total with five appointed by the governor.
“I’m honored by the Governor’s appointment to this committee and the opportunity to represent the 50th Senate District and the people of Georgia in such a prestigious manner,” said Butterworth. “During this time of tight budgets and much-needed fiscal responsibility, I will do everything I can to ensure the vital services of state government are provided to Georgia’s citizens.”
The Fiscal Affairs Subcommittee has the authority to review the budget requests of various state agencies, including the Office of Planning and Budget. The subcommittee also approves any funding transfers between agencies proposed by the governor and any leases of state-owned property.
The Senate and House Fiscal Affairs Subcommittees must meet jointly once each quarter, or more often at the call of the governor, to review any budget transfers or leasing of state property. Before any transfer of funds or the leasing of property, the proposal must earn 11 affirmative votes in the joint subcommittee meeting. The joint subcommittees must also provide annual reports to the General Assembly which include, but are not limited to, matters coming to their attention, efficiencies in government, and management of departments.
