ATLANTA (Feb. 5, 2010) – Georgia’s current property tax system places unnecessary financial burdens on families and individuals who are already struggling to survive in this grim economy.  The months of public outcry and countless headlines in papers across the state make it clear that maintaining the system’s status quo is not an option.  If we are to get the state and its citizens back on their feet, we have to change the way property owners are taxed.  Senate leaders have heard these concerns loud and clear.

HOUSE & SENATE DEMOCRATS ANNOUNCE TRANSPORTATION JOBS DEVELOPMENT ACT

ATLANTA (Feb. 4, 2010) – Members of the Democratic House and Senate Caucuses today announced the Transportation Jobs Development Act.  The proposal includes a Constitutional Amendment levying a one percent sales tax to fund transportation projects within newly defined special tax districts.  In addition, the amendment will dedicate the forth penny collected on motor fuel to any general transportation purpose.

Senate Votes to Protect Citizens from being Involuntarily Implanted with a Microchip

ATLANTA (Feb. 4, 2010) – The Georgia State Senate today voted to protect Georgians from being involuntarily implanted with a microchip.  Authored by Sen. Chip Pearson (R-Dawsonville) to uphold Georgians’ constitutional rights of protection of person and property, Senate Bill 235 also provides for penalties and lays out guidelines for voluntary implantation.
