ATLANTA (Jan. 26, 2010) – Sen. Renee Unterman (R-Buford) has recently been promoted to vice-chairman of the Regulated Industries and Utilities Committee. The committee handles gas, telecommunications, electric, and other related industry areas.
“I appreciate the confidence that the Lt. Governor has given me in serving on several influential committees over the years. It is an honor to serve with Chairman Shafer, whom I share a portion of Gwinnett County within adjacent senate districts,” said Sen. Unterman.
“Senator Unterman has been a tremendous addition to the committee. I welcome her energy and passion in her new role as vice chairman,” said David Shafer (R-Duluth), chairman of the Regulated Industries and Utilities Committee.
Unterman served as a member of the Regulated Industry Committee prior to her promotion. She also currently serves as chair of the Senate Government Oversight committee, vice- chair of the Senate Health and Human Services Committee and is the chairman of Appropriations Subcommittee for the Department of Human Resources. Last year, Sen. Unterman was named Human Services Chair of the National Conference of State Legislators.
As former Mayor of Loganville for three terms, as well as Gwinnett County Commissioner for one term, Unterman has an institutional knowledge about utilities, infrastructure, and industries.
Sen. Unterman is a native of Georgia, residing in Gwinnett County for over 30 years. She also is a part of the Greater Gwinnett Republican Women as an active member and NextGeneration Sportsmen, as well as participating with the Stennis Foundation, promoting women in government.
