With only nine days left in the 2016 legislative session, the Georgia Senate is now focused on reviewing House bills, approving any changes made to Senate bills by the House, and finalizing the FY 2017 general budget. The next three weeks will be a challenge, as all business for this year’s legislative session must conclude on Thursday, March 24. I remain committed to supporting legislation that will increase public safety, encourage business growth and allow hardworking Georgians to keep more money in their pockets. Update from the Gold Dome

This week was a busy one for the Georgia Senate. With five legislative days planned and a full committee schedule, the pressure was on meet the crossover day deadline. Only one legislative day remains for bills to pass the Senate floor and transfer over to the House for consideration. Update from the Gold Dome

The Georgia General Assembly is officially halfway through with the 2016 legislative session and just 10 legislative days away from a significant deadline: Crossover Day. The 30th legislative day, or Crossover Day, is the last day for Senate bills to be carried to the House for consideration, and vice versa.  The Senate will dedicate the next few weeks to improving and vetting bills before they go before the entire General Assembly for approval. Update from the Gold Dome

The Georgia Senate crossed legislative day 16 off the calendar this week as we completed the fourth legislative week. Several bills received Senate approval this week, and it is likely that the amended FY 2016 budget will be presented on the floor within the next couple of weeks. The Georgia General Assembly has only one constitutionally required task, and that is to pass a balanced budget each year. Our duty to carefully vet and approve legislation remains important; however, one of our most critical responsibilities is the fiscally responsible allocation of Georgia’s tax dollars.
