Georgia’s high school graduation rates are still 49th in the nation, and recent reports state that Georgia is 12th in the nation of the worst states for transportation. Both education and transportation have dramatic effects on a state’s economy and development. This week I was proud to stand with my Republican colleagues in true education and transportation reform.

I support these issues and have helped pass the legislation which will provide Georgians with some much needed relief. I also had the honor of introducing my pastor, Brother Herman Parker from the First Baptist Church of Bremen, as the chaplain of the day.

Notes from the Senate

ATLANTA (January 23, 2009)- This week legislators from the General Assembly began budget hearings with Governor Sonny Perdue’s address to the House and Senate appropriations committees where he outlined his plan to balance the state’s budget by $2 billion. Georgia is required by law to produce a balanced budget, and we are proactively analyzing state spending to ensure a fiscally responsible, efficient and effective state government. Through the Senate Government Best Value Task Force the senate has been working to be sure the state is still focused on its core functions.
