Capitol Recap: Budget Week – A Look at Georgia’s Economy

While the first week of the Senate offered a small glimpse at the many ceremonial traditions of the Gold Dome and the typical pomp and circumstance of an elected office, the resiliency of our state took precedence in the previous days, as we began the tedious, yet fulfilling work of “Budget Week.” Referred to as a time when the General Assembly takes a brief hiatus from our regular legislative days in order to conduct in-depth budget hearings with representatives from our state agencies, the week was filled with a strong reminder of the effects of the pandemic, but it also displayed the ways in which our state has overcome. Georgia is stronger than it has been and while we must continue to weather the storms, I am confident in the future of our great state.

Capitol Recap: A Welcome Back to the Gold Dome

With a full legislature back under the Gold Dome, the start of the first session of the 156th Georgia General Assembly has, in many ways, served as a balance between the old versus the new. The 2021 Legislative Session has marked the start of a new biennium and following the results of our local elections on November 3rd, that means we’ve welcomed a new cohort of senators who bring expertise in a variety of sectors, from farming to public health, and anywhere in between. With that, many of us have tried to continue the policy-focused dialogues we left off on in June, working to find the best ways we can support the businesses and families of this great state. I would like to thank you for your trust in me. I promise to serve you faithfully and to fight for your greatest needs in all that I do.

Senator Jason Anavitarte Appointed as Vice Chairman of the Senate Committee on Education and Youth

ATLANTA (January 13, 2021) Yesterday, Sen. Jason Anavitarte (R – Dallas) was appointed to serve as Vice Chairman of the Senate Committee on Education and Youth and to serve on several influential committees for the 2021 Legislative Session by Lt. Governor Geoff Duncan and the Senate Committee on Assignments.

“I feel incredibly honored to have been selected to serve as a committee Vice Chairman during my first year serving the Senate,” said Sen. Anavitarte. “One of my top priorities is making sure we as legislators are working to better our school systems in Georgia. I am looking forward to using my passion and expertise as a former school board member and a father of three children in public school to serve on this committee. Additionally, I am very much looking forward to serving on the Ethics, Banking and Financial Institutions, Science and Technology, and Transportation committees.”

The first session of the 156th Georgia General Assembly convened on January 11, 2021, at the Georgia State Capitol.
