Senator Tommie Williams Receives 2015 ACCG Legislative Service Award

ATLANTA (Oct. 30, 2015) | ACCG, Georgia’s county association, recently honored Sen. Tommie Williams (R – Lyons) with the 2015 Legislative Service Award. Sen. Williams serves the residents of Appling, Jeff Davis, Long, Montgomery, Telfair, Toombs, Treutlen, Wayne, and Wheeler counties and portions of Liberty and Tattnall counties. He is the Chairman of the Senate Transportation Committee and a member of the Senate Agriculture and Consumer Affairs, Appropriations, Natural Resources and Environment, and Reapportionment and Redistricting Committees. ACCG presented the award at its District Meeting in Laurens County.

“We are elated to continue the recognition of our state leaders with the ACCG Legislative Service Awards program,” said ACCG Executive Director Ross King. “This awards program has grown tremendously and maintains its status as a prestigious honor amongst our state lawmakers.”

ACCG is honoring Sen. Williams for his work with HB 170 and HB 106 during the 2015 legislative session. He was instrumental in helping to pass the single county TSPLOST and TIA self-start provisions that passed as part of the Transportation Funding Act in HB 170. Sen. Williams also spearheaded the effort to immediately pass clean-up language to the aforementioned provisions in HB 106 in order to prevent unintended consequences from having a detrimental effect on counties.

“ACCG is thankful to Sen. Williams for his work with the passage of the single county TSPLOST and TIA self-start provisions in the Transportation Funding Act,” said ACCG Associate Legislative Director Shaun Adams. “He was instrumental in ensuring the protection of local flexibility within sales tax on motor fuel as well as options for generating additional revenue for improvements to local transportation infrastructure.”
