ATLANTA (October 2, 2012) – State Senator Ross Tolleson (R-Perry) recently read to a group of students at Kings Chapel Elementary in Perry as part of Georgia Pre-K Week. This year’s 3rd annual Georgia Pre-K Week runs from Monday, September 30 to Friday, October 4.
“It is never too early to start learning and this is a great event to promote early education throughout the state,” said Sen. Tolleson. “Each year I am excited to participate in this event and get out in the community to meet with our esteemed educators and our young bright students.”
Sponsored by Voices for Georgia’s Children and Pre-K partners throughout the state, Georgia Pre-K Week focuses on the important role of Georgia’s Pre-K program on future academic achievement.
“Georgia’s Pre-K program is an exceptional program that can serve as a model for our country,” said Pat Willis, Executive Director of Voices for Georgia’s Children, a child advocacy organization. “About 84,000 four year olds in Georgia benefit from this remarkable program, a milestone in the critical phase of education that takes place from birth to age 8.”
To celebrate Georgia Pre-K Week, Senator Tolleson was one of nearly 150 state officials who visited some of the approximately 3,800 Pre-K classrooms located in all 159 counties across Georgia.
