Senator Rogers Named One of 2009’s Most Influential Georgians

ATLANTA (May 27, 2009) – Senate Majority Leader Chip Rogers (R-Woodstock) was recently selected as one of James Magazine’s “2009 Most Influential Georgians.” James Magazine is a monthly publication covering Georgia news and issues. It is recognized as Georgia’s only monthly news magazine.

“It is quite an honor to be recognized alongside some of Georgia’s most remarkable political, business, and civic leaders,” said Rogers. “Our state is extremely fortunate to have a group of successful men and women committed to making Georgia a better place to live and do business.”

Last November Rogers was unanimously elected majority leader of the Georgia Senate, the second-highest ranking position in the body. The majority leader is the primary spokesperson for the majority party, often working with the lieutenant governor and president pro tempore to develop policy decisions. The majority leader also sets the calendar for the legislative session.

Rogers was elected to his third Senate term in 2008 after serving two years in the State House. During his tenure in the Senate Rogers sponsored and passed a widespread and significant list of legislative accomplishments including the nation’s strongest immigration enforcement laws. Rogers has additionally championed identity theft and protection legislation, government spending transparency, Georgia’s first credit freeze law, Second Amendment protection, and the third strongest dog fighting restrictions in the country. Most recently Rogers authored legislation allowing property owners to take assessment disputes directly to arbitration, bypassing lengthy government processes and placing property owners and government on equal footing when determining valuation disputes.

Rogers has earned the nickname “Taxpayer Champion” for his tireless work on cutting taxes, reducing spending, promoting pro-business legislation, and bringing transparency and efficiency to government.

Sen. Chip Rogers serves as Senate Majority Leader. He represents the 21st Senate District, which includes portions of Cherokee and Cobb counties. He can be reached at his office at 404.463.1378 or by email at chip.rogers@senate.ga.gov.
