Senator JaNice Van Ness Receives Committee Appointments

ATLANTA (January 29, 2016)  |  Sen. JaNice Van Ness (R – Conyers) has been recently appointed to the Metro Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority Oversight Committee (MARTOC) by Lt. Gov. Casey Cagle, and to three Senate Subcommittees. The Subcommittees are Healthcare Delivery and Pharmacology, which both fall under the Health and Human Services Committee, and the Academic Achievement Subcommittee, which falls under the Education and Youth Committee.

“I am honored to have been newly appointed to these four committees, especially the Education Subcommittee of Academic Achievement,” said Sen. Van Ness. “This is an area of great interest to me, since I am especially passionate about individual student success. With more than 25 years of experience in education, and as a proud graduate of Rockdale County public schools, I look forward to serving the interests of all students in my district while upholding the duties given by all of my committee appointments.”

The Committee on Education & Youth, chaired by Sen. Lindsey Tippins (R – Marietta) has general jurisdiction over K-12 education, certified employees of schools and school facilities. It also reviews legislation related to childcare and Pre-K activities.

The Committee on Health & Human Services, chaired by Sen. Renee Unterman (R – Buford) has general jurisdiction over legislation that relates to health care and social services. This committee also addresses areas related to the licensing and regulation of health care professional.

MARTOC, chaired by Rep. Tom Taylor (R – Dunwoody) is a joint House and Senate Committee that is responsible for monitoring and regulating the Metro Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA), which runs through parts of District 43. There are 11 Senate and House members who serve on the committee.
