Senator Hawkins new Chairman of State and Local Government Operations

Atlanta (January 9, 2009)— State Senator Lee Hawkins has been appointed by Lieutenant Governor Casey Cagle as the new chairman of State and Local Government Operations for the 2009 Legislative Session.

“As chairman, I look forward to supporting the committee to provide constructive legislation for our counties and cities,” Sen. Hawkins said. “I know that with my colleagues we will cover different outlooks in order to find what is best for Georgians.”

Jurisdictions for the committee include special taxes, city and county organization and powers, subdivisions, and administration of special districts. The committee covers legislation for counties and cities across the state.

Hawkins has been a member of State and Local Government Operations since 2006 along with several other committees and has served as secretary of the Agriculture and Consumer Affairs and Vice Chairman of the Reapportionment and Redistricting committee.
