Senator George Hooks Appointed to Ethics Vice-Chair and to Other Notable Committees

ATLANTA (January 12, 2009) – State Senator George Hooks (D-Americus) has been appointed by Lt. Governor Casey Cagle as the vice-chairman to the Ethics Committee for the 2009 Legislative Session.

Jurisdiction for the committee includes election bills and legislation addressing the moral and ethical issues relating to governmental individuals and groups.

Sen. Hooks is a veteran legislator, being elected to the Senate in 1990 after serving five terms in the House since 1980. He is also a ranking member of Appropriations, which he chaired from 1993 to 2003, a ranking member of Rules, and a member of the Economic Development, Natural Resources and the Environment, and Joint Legislative Ethics committees. Because of Hooks’ experience, influence, and respect, he is the Dean of the Senate. Sen. Hooks is a member of the Executive Committee of the Southern Legislative Conference (SLC) and was reappointed in 2007 to the Georgia Authority Oversight Committee. He received the “Legislative Service Award” for 1991 and 2006 from both the Georgia Municipal Association and the Association of County Commissioners of Georgia.
