Senator Ellis Black Announces Statewide Initiative to Find Georgia’s Fallen Vietnam Veterans

ATLANTA (November 9, 2015)  |  As part of a statewide initiative with other state senators, Sen. Ellis Black(R – Valdosta) is calling on all Georgians to honor our Vietnam veterans. There is a need for pictures of Georgia’s fallen Vietnam War veterans for a multimedia display at the new Education Center at Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall (‘The Wall’). The display honors veterans who gave the ultimate sacrifice during the Vietnam War, including 1,584 Georgia soldiers. This effort is part of a national program by the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund (VVMF) to put a face with each of the 58,300 fallen veterans from across the nation whose names appear on The Wall.

“By sending in photos of our faceless heroes, we can better honor those who have made such a costly sacrifice for our country,” said Sen. Black. “I want to thank my colleague Sen. Judson Hill for his leadership on this initiative and hope that all Georgians will join with us to identify Georgia’s faceless Vietnam veterans.”

Currently, there are 831 faces of Georgia Soldiers listed on the Vietnam Memorial Wall meaning 753 Georgia Vietnam veterans remain faceless.

Georgia’s campaign started in early November at a press conference. Legislative colleagues, as well as fellow citizens all across the state, are asked to search for photos that prominently feature these faceless fallen heroes. It is the hope of every member in Georgia General Assembly that each Georgia Vietnam veteran’s name will have a face and background story associated with it by the end of the project.

Photos of fallen veterans can be submitted online at www.vvmf.org/Wall-of-Faces. Photos may also be mailed to: The Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund, Attn: Call for Photos, 2600 Virginia Avenue, NW, Suite 104, Washington, DC 20037. Please send a COPY of the original photo, as the VVMF will not be responsible for returning any photos.
