Senator David Shafer Releases Statement Supporting Emergency Appeal to Delay Implementation of Obamacare Health Insurance Rate Increases

ATLANTA (July 30, 2013) – Senate President Pro Tempore David Shafer (R – Duluth) today released the following statement supporting the emergency appeal by Insurance Commissioner Ralph Hudgens to delay the implementation of massive Obamacare health insurance rate increases.

“Notwithstanding the President’s many assurances to the contrary, I have always suspected that Obamacare would lead to higher health insurance rates.  But the rate increases pending before the Georgia Insurance Department are absolutely staggering in magnitude.

“The President repeatedly promised his legislation would make health insurance coverage more available; but massively increasing rates will have the opposite effect.  Coverage will become unaffordable for more Georgia families, and the ranks of the uninsured will grow.

“I applaud Insurance Commissioner Ralph Hudgens for his efforts to protect Georgia families from the catastrophic consequences of these rate increases.   I call on the United States Department of Health and Human Services to grant his emergency appeal to delay implementation of the Obamacare rate increases.”
