Senator Albers Recognizes Mountain Park Elementary as National Blue Ribbon School

ATLANTA (November 8, 2013) – Senator John Albers (R –Roswell) presented a Senate Resolution to Mountain Park Elementary School on Thursday, November 7, 2013 in recognition of the school’s designation as a 2013 National Blue Ribbon School by the U.S. Department of Education.

“It was an honor to recognize Mountain Park Elementary on being named a National Blue Ribbon School,” said Senator Albers. “The students, teachers and staff at Mountain Park Elementary continue to set a sterling example of academic success for schools within the district and across the state.”

Mountain Park Elementary School was one of 286 schools to receive this distinction nationwide and the only school in Fulton County to be recognized. It was first awarded the National Blue Ribbon Award in 2003 for overall academic excellence and was named a Georgia School of Excellence in 2001.

“We are a team of teachers, students, staff and parents all working for the success of our students. This award is a credit to the entire school community and their efforts,” said Mountain Park Principal Stacy Perlman.

In addition to presenting a Senate Resolution, Senator Albers visited a group of 5th graders at Mountain Park Elementary on Tuesday, November 5 to discuss the legislative branch and its ability to positively influence Georgia’s future. While there, Senator Albers also spent time encouraging students to become actively involved in the legislative process and explained how students can make a difference within the community.

Mountain Park Elementary will be formally honored for its commitment to academic excellence on November 18 -19 in Washington D.C.
