Sen. Wiles Unanimously Elected Chairman of the Cobb County Legislative Delegation

ATLANTA (January 15, 2009) – State Senator John Wiles (R-Kennesaw) has been unanimously elected chairman of the Cobb County Legislative Delegation. The Delegation is comprised of all members of the General Assembly whose districts are wholly or partly in Cobb County. He will serve as chairman for the 2009-2010 legislative term.

“I am honored and pleased that my colleagues have entrusted me with this great responsibility,” said Sen. Wiles. “As chairman of my local delegation, I look forward to representing constituents in all of Cobb County to ensure that their needs are met.”

Throughout his legislative career, Sen. Wiles has championed issues most important to Cobb County citizens. He authored legislation to freeze property taxes for homeowners in Cobb County and the cities of Kennesaw, Acworth, and Marietta. He has also protected private property rights for families in his district and has been influential in reforming education policies to guarantee local schools receive adequate funding. He has also worked diligently to find the funding to meet the growing needs of Kennesaw State University and Southern Polytecnic.

Active in the Cobb community, he is also a member of the Cobb Chamber of Commerce, Marietta Kiwanis and Kennesaw Business Association and serves on the board of directors of the Acworth Business Association and the West Cobb Business Association.

In the Senate, Wiles also serves as chief deputy whip, chairman of the Special Judiciary Committee, ex-officio of the Insurance and Labor Committee, and as a member of the Appropriations, Judiciary, Health and Human Services, State and Local Governmental Operations and Urban Affairs committees.
