Sen. Tolleson Joins Governor Deal for Flint River Drought Protection Act Bill Signing

PhotoATLANTA (April 17, 2014)  |  Sen. Ross Tolleson (R- Perry) joined Governor Nathan Deal for the signing of Senate Bill 213, better known as the “Flint River Drought Protection Act,” at Crisp County-Cordele Airport on Wednesday.

“SB 213 is a step in the right direction for long term sustainability of areas surrounding the lower Flint River,” said Sen. Tolleson.  “With the signing of Senate Bill 213, we are preserving water in the Flint River Basin by protecting minimum stream flows and enhancing agricultural water conservation incentives to provide ecological benefits and maintainable, long-term access to water resources for existing and future water users.”

The “Flint River Drought Protection Act” addresses the drawing of water from the Flint River basin.  The bill ensures adequate stream flow to lessen the effects of drought while also protecting vulnerable aquatic life habitat in affected areas of the basin or where drainage occurs in four specified creeks.

The bill will go into effect July 1, 2014.
