Sen. Seay Elected to National Black Caucus Executive Committee

WASHINGTON, D.C. – (December 16, 2008) Sen. Valencia Seay (D-Riverdale) has recently been elected to the Executive Committee of the National Black Caucus of State Legislators (NBCSL) during the organization’s 32nd annual legislative conference in Washington, D.C. Chosen by 600 of her colleagues from across the nation, Sen. Seay will serve as an at-large member of the Executive Committee, replacing fellow Georgian Rep. Bob Holmes (D-Atlanta).

“I am overwhelmed at the support I’ve received from my fellow elected officials from around the country,” said Sen. Seay. “Being a member of the National Black Caucus has been a gratifying experience, and I look forward to serving my fellow committee members, colleagues and constituents back home in this position.”

Sen. Seay has been a member of NBCSL since her election to the General Assembly eight years ago. She has brought back new ideas and policies of benefit to Georgia through her service on NBCSL’s transportation, education and telecommunications committees.

As a member of the Executive Committee, Sen. Seay will meet with her colleagues three times a year to discuss, vote and adopt policies as a part of the caucus position.

“I want to particularly thank Representative Holmes for nominating me as his successor on the committee,” Sen. Seay added. “He has served the state of Georgia proudly for over 30 years, and I am honored by his support and trust.”

NBCSL conducts educational, research and training programs to help legislators become more effective policymakers. The organization also serves as a national networking program for African-American legislators to share ideas and to serve as an advocate for issues important to the African-American community.

Sen. Valencia Seay represents the 34th Senate District, which includes parts of Clayton and Fayette Counties. She can be reached at her office at 404.656.5095 or by email at valencia.seay@senate.ga.gov.
