Sen. Mullis Named Influential Georgian by Georgia Trend Magazine

ATLANTA (January 13, 2009) – State Sen. Jeff Mullis (R-Chickamauga) was recently named one of the 100 Most Influential Georgians by Georgia Trend, a popular business and political magazine. Sen. Mullis was also re-appointed by Lt. Governor Cagle as chairman of the Transportation Committee for the 2009 Legislative Session.

“I am privileged to be appointed such honors,” Sen. Mullis said. “I will be sure to live up to these high regards and use my influence to lead and support my committees and our senate into a productive session.”

The jurisdiction of the Transportation Committee includes legislation relating to highway safety, regulation of intrastate common carriers, including railroads, buses, trucks, vessels, pipelines, and civil aviation. Also included are inland waterways and any other means of transportation.

Sen. Mullis was chosen by Georgia Trend for his leadership as chairman of the Senate Transportation Committee and Transportation Subcommittee of Senate Appropriations. Sen. Mullis is a proven leader who is also vice-chairman of the Public Safety Committee, ex-officio of Banking and Financial Institutions Committee, and a member of Appropriations, Economic Development, and Government Oversight Committees. In years past, Sen. Mullis has been appointed to several special committee assignments by Gov. Perdue, including the 2004 G-8 Summit Committee and the chairman of the Senate Music Industry Committee. He has also been the recipient of several awards in recent years, including: the 2002, 2003 and 2005 Legislative Service Award by the Association County Commissioners of Georgia (ACCG); an award for work on biker issues given by the American Bikers Aimed Towards Education (ABATE); the Brotherton Award given locally for protecting heritage; and the Metropolitan Fire Chief’s Award for his work on public safety and firefighter issues. Recently, Sen. Mullis was awarded the GMA “Champion of Georgia Cities” award. In 2005, James Magazine recognized Sen. Mullis as one of the State’s 25 most influential leaders.
