Sen. Mullis Attends Joint Legislative Panel on Manufacturing at Georgia Tech

ATLANTA (November 14, 2008) – Sen. Jeff Mullis (R-Chickamauga) joined fellow members of the Joint Legislative Panel on the Future of Manufacturing for their third meeting, hosted by Georgia Tech in Atlanta. The panel toured the campus’ Manufacturing Research Center and heard presentations from the university’s professors, students and industry experts. Presenters addressed the current state of Georgia’s manufacturing industry and their current research and development of new factory technologies and support strategies.

“The manufacturing industry affects so many jobs in northwest Georgia, and I am working to create more job opportunities in the area,” said Sen. Mullis. “We must find ways to keep manufacturing opportunities flourishing throughout the state, as this will improve the economic future of not only my local area, but Georgia as a whole.”

This legislative panel is comprised of Senate and House members appointed to study committees that are evaluating the state’s policies to determine what changes may be necessary to enhance the appeal of Georgia for investment opportunities, job creation and growth of existing industry. The panel held a prior meeting in Augusta last month.

The members of the Senate Study Committee on the Future of Manufacturing in Georgia include Chip Rogers (R-Woodstock), Tim Golden (D-Valdosta), Jeff Mullis (R-Chickamauga), Chip Pearson (R-Dawsonville), Doug Stoner (D-Smyrna) and Ed Tarver (D-Augusta).
