Sen. Michael Rhett to Serve on Judiciary Committee

ATLANTA (January 9, 2018)  |  Sen. Michael Rhett (D – Marietta) was recently appointed to serve as a member of the Judiciary Committee for the 2018 Legislative Session by the Senate Committee on Assignments.

“I am looking forward to serving on the Judiciary Committee along with my other assigned committees this year,” said Sen. Rhett. “I am very thankful for this opportunity to be part of such a valued committee serving citizens across the state in the areas they need it most. I will continue to work my hardest during session to speak up for our citizens and work through legislation that serves them best.”

Sen. Rhett is also a member of the Banking and Financial Institutions, Retirement and Veterans, Military and Homeland Security committees.

“We must continue to invest and innovate to keep our competitive edge and remain the number one state for business,” said Lt. Governor Cagle. “I know Sen. Rhett will thoroughly examine the issues before the Judiciary Committee and look for new opportunities to support the 33rd district and move our entire state forward.”

Once a piece of legislation is introduced in the Senate, it is assigned to a committee, depending on its topic. If the committee gives the legislation a “do pass” recommendation, the proposed law is sent to the Rules Committee for consideration. The appointed chairs will oversee the operation and order of Senate committee meetings, including calling for action on bills, resolutions or other matters assigned to that committee.

The second session of the 154th Georgia General Assembly convened on January 8, 2018, at the Georgia State Capitol.
