Sen. Lester Jackson Leads Passage of St. Patrick’s Day Legislation through State Senate

ATLANTA (March 5, 2014) | Yesterday, Sen. Lester Jackson (D- Savannah) led the passage of Senate Bill 103 out of the State Senate with a vote of 32-19.  SB 103 will allow Savannah to extend the St. Patrick’s Day holiday to incorporate one Sunday during the annual celebration.

“With the passage of Senate Bill 103, visitors and locals alike will be able to celebrate our city’s biggest holiday on Sunday,” said Sen. Jackson.  “This piece of legislation ensures that our local economy reaps all of the benefits from this annual celebration that brings more than half a million unique visitors to our historic city. I want to think my colleagues in the Senate for their support and I look forward to a swift passage in the House of Representatives.

SB 103 will revise the definition of St. Patrick’s Day holiday period to include one Sunday, prior to and including March 17 pertaining to alcohol consumption. Furthermore, this legislation allows Savannah to maximize tourist income by capitalizing on the extended period of days for the annual celebration.

SB 103 will now be transmitted to the Georgia House of Representatives for consideration.
