Sen. Judson Hill re-named Chairman of GA World Congress Center Overview Committee

ATLANTA (April 17, 2009) – State Sen. Judson Hill (R-Marietta) has been re-appointed Chairman of the Georgia World Congress Center (GWCC) and Georgia Dome Authority Overview Committee this week by the Senate Committee of Assignments. The committee Hill will oversee is charged with reviewing the success with which the GWCC Authority is accomplishing its duties. Hill has overseen the GWCC Authority for the past four years as its chairman, working closely with the elected members of the GWCC Board. Hill is looking forward to growing Georgia’s economic development possibilities utilizing the GWCC facilities.

“It is an honor to once again serve as chairman of the GWCC Overview Committee. I am humbled by the confidence the Senate leadership has in my ability and experience with the GWCC. The Congress Center and Georgia Dome are world-class facilities which help Georgia fully reach its potential in hosting major events and conventions,” said Hill. “The Georgia World Congress Center is a very important economic catalyst for Georgia bringing hundreds of millions of dollars to our community annually. It enables our state to be a popular destination for hosting conferences, conventions, and major sporting events such as the 1996 Olympic Games, Super Bowls, major college football championship games and NCAA Final Fours which traditionally bring huge economic gains. The recent upgrades to the GWCC will give us the opportunity to attract more tourism business to Georgia. Tourism benefits our state as a whole by increasing our state revenues and showcases Georgia as the undisputed capital of the South.”

The GWCC Authority serves as both owner and operator of the Georgia World Congress Center, the Georgia Dome and Centennial Olympic Park and is directly responsible for promoting and servicing regional, national and international events, conventions and trade shows.

Sen. Judson Hill serves as Chairman of Reapportionment and Redistricting Committee and the Republican Caucus Vice Chairman. He represents the 32nd Senate District which includes portions of Cobb and Fulton counties. He may be reached by phone at 404.656.0150 or by e-mail at judson.hill@senate.ga.gov.
