ATLANTA (August 20, 2013) – Senator Judson Hill (R-Marietta) has been appointed to serve as Chairman of the Georgia Legislative Federal and State Funded Health Care Financing Programs Overview Committee by Lieutenant Governor Casey Cagle. Senator Hill, a longtime advocate for health care reform and improved oversight, authored the legislation to enact the joint committee. The Georgia Legislative Federal and State Funded Health Care Financing Programs Overview Committee will provide the legislature with keen insight into Georgia’s public health programs, which represent approximately 25% of the state budget.
“With the rapidly rising costs of health care, we must make every effort to ensure the integrity of Georgia’s health care system as well as explore common sense solutions in our public health programs as well as Medicaid and Peachcare. Public health care programs are often abused by people not qualified to receive those benefits, which in turn drives up the overall costs to taxpayers. I am pleased to lead a committee that is working to find cost savings and increased efficiency of our state’s health care programs,” said Senator Hill.

The Georgia Legislative Federal and State Funded Health Care Financing Programs Overview Committee will be comprised of appointed members from both the Georgia State Senate and House of Representatives. Senator Hill will serve as the Committee Chair until 2015. The Committee will submit a report to the Georgia General Assembly each year on January 1 with recommendations and proposed legislation regarding federal and state funded health care programs.
