Sen. Jones Welcomes Malcolm Mitchell to the Senate

4Q8A9719ATLANTA (February 23, 2017)  |  Sen. Burt Jones (R – Jackson) welcomed Malcolm Mitchell to the Senate today to recognize his efforts to improve youth literacy in Georgia. Mitchell is a University of Georgia Football letterman who recently won a Super Bowl Championship with the New England Patriots.

“I am honored to be able to host Malcolm Mitchell at the Capitol today,” said Sen. Jones. “Malcolm’s impact on our state is not limited to the football field; rather, it extends to an important topic today, youth literacy. He is a leader in his community and an activist for literacy for our students through his donation of books and “Reading Ambassadors” program. He sets the standard high for student and professional athletes across the country, and I am grateful for his outstanding representation of the University of Georgia.”

While he was a wide receiver at UGA from 2011-2015, Mitchell earned the David Jacobs Award, the Haier Achievement Award, the SEC Community Service Team and the 2016 Community Spirit Award. Mitchell is the author of the children’s book, The Magician’s Hat, and encourages improving youth literacy through his program and website “Read with Malcolm.”
