Sen. John Albers and Georgia DDS Deputy Commissioner Present First Ever Three-Wheel Basic Riders Course Permit

ATLANTA (November 3, 2017) | Sen. John Albers (R – Roswell) and Georgia Department of Driver Services (DDS) Deputy Commissioner Ricky Rich presented Mrs. Linda Robertson with the first ever Three-Wheel Basic Riders Course (BRC) permit today.

“I want to thank my good friend Karl Snell, DDS, Lt. Governor Casey Cagle and everyone in the community who came together to make a meaningful difference in the lives of all Georgians,” said Sen. Albers. “As we can see here today, these vehicles are not cars or traditional motorcycles. They have three wheels and offer our citizens, whether it be first-time riders, veterans, the elderly or those who are disabled, a unique opportunity to experience the joys of riding throughout our great state. While we want everyone to enjoy being part of the riding community, we want to ensure that everyone is able to do so in a safe and proper manner. This right here is a prime example of what happens when we all come together to improve a process and make things better for all of our citizens.”

“When Sen. Albers brought this issue to my attention, my first thought was that it made all the sense in the world and why aren’t we already doing it,” said Deputy Commissioner Rich. “I met with Commissioner Moore and he agreed. The rest of the story is just a good example of public and private partnerships that benefit our citizens.”

Sen. Albers and Deputy Commissioner Rich were joined by representatives from DDS, Mr. Karl Snell, the course instructor, Mrs. Robertson and other stakeholders for the presentation of the first ever Three-Wheel Basic Riders Course permit.

There are currently over 414,000 licensed riders and 17,000 permit holders in Georgia. Now, three-wheel license waivers are available to keep citizens throughout the state trained, safe and legal. Since August, the Georgia Motorcycle Safety Program has trained and certified 15 rider coaches to deliver the three-wheel curriculum to certify 12 more next spring.  The opportunity to earn the Three-Wheel Basic Riders Course permit will help those who are disabled, veterans and those who are elderly to be able to still ride.
