Sen. Hardie Davis Visits C-SPAN’s Digital Literacy Bus

ATLANTA (December 12, 2012) – Sen. Hardie Davis (D-Augusta) visited C-SPAN’s Digital Literacy Bus on Friday, December 7, during the bus’ tour stop in Augusta. Pine Hill Middle School and Cross Creek High School were each selected to host the bus for a two-hour period. The Comcast Corporation, one of the nation’s leading cable television providers, is a partner of the Digital Literacy 2012 Bus Tour.

“It was wonderful to see how C-SPAN is leveraging technology to advance education and expand learning opportunities for students throughout the nation,” said Sen. Davis. “Strong technology skills are needed not just in the classroom, but also in the workplace. The C-SPAN Digital Learning Bus is giving access to platforms that will provide a life-long benefit to Augusta students.”

Small groups of students from both schools were able to tour the bus, which is equipped with touch screen computers that demonstrate C-SPAN’s Video Library, C-SPAN Classroom, Congressional Chronicle, and Book TV. The partnership between C-SPAN and Comcast is designed to prepare young adults for future careers in digital media through the use of broadband and other digital tools. Comcast also supports digital literacy efforts through technology labs, online job-search training, online safety and other programs.

C-SPAN is a private, non-profit company created in 1979 by the cable television industry as a public service. The channel is viewed in over 100 million TV households and programs three public affairs television networks in both SD and HD, in addition to C- SPAN Radio, heard in Washington DC and nationwide via XM Satellite Radio.
