Sen. Fort Rallies Gun Safety Advocates on Capitol Steps

ATLANTA (February 27, 2013) – Yesterday, Senator Vincent Fort (D- Atlanta) held a rally urging the State Legislature  to pass gun safety legislation as well as commemorate the first anniversary of Trayvon Martin’s tragic murder.

“Our state is long overdue for reasonable, common sense gun safety measures that protect all Georgians from senseless acts of violence,” said Sen. Fort.  “We are calling on all elected officials to put partisan politics aside and enact gun safety legislation that seeks to curb the occurrence of gun related tragedies throughout Georgia.”

Sen. Fort was honored to be joined by Ms. Lucia McBath during the rally.  Ms. McBath is the mother of 17 year old Jordan Davis whom was shot and killed in Florida late last year after a dispute over loud music.  The man accused of the crime is claiming his defense around the controversial “Stand Your Ground” law, which is also the defense in the Trayvon Martin case.

Sen. Fort has introduced Senate Bills 146 and 147, which seek to ban assault weapons, limit ammunition magazine clips and restrict use of the “Stand Your Ground” law.
