Sen. Donzella James to Host African Diaspora Day at the Capitol

ATLANTA (March 17, 2016) | Sen. Donzella James (D – Atlanta) sponsored Senate Resolution 1218 to name Tuesday, March 22, 2016 as African Diaspora Day at the state Capitol. In celebration of the resolution, Sen. James will be hosting “A Taste of Africa in the Diaspora: Showcasing the Rich Heritage and Culture of the African Diaspora” from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. in room 216 of the Capitol.

“It is my great honor to join with friends and colleagues to recognize the African Diaspora and its influence on the United States,” said Sen. James. “Although many of its countries still face terrible hardship and unstable government, Africa is a continent rich in natural resources and cultural history. It is my hope that we can continue to develop international partnerships which support the emergence of Africa’s private sector, promote direct foreign investment in Africa, and leverage the imbalances in Africa’s growing economy.”

The free event will include a variety of traditional foods that are native to the African continent. Those wishing to attend should contact Queen Blessing Itua at queenblessingchiefadviser@gmail.com to RSVP.
