Sen. David Lucas to Serve on the Senate Appropriations Committee

ATLANTA (January 9, 2018)  |  Sen. David Lucas (D – Macon) was recently appointed to serve on the Senate Appropriations Committee for the 2018 Legislative Session by the Senate Committee on Assignments.

“I am so honored to be able to continue serving Georgia every day, and am very thankful for the opportunity to now serve as a member of the Appropriations Committee,” said Sen. Lucas. “This committee is in charge of making such impactful decisions and I am looking forward to being a part of this process.”

Sen. Lucas will also continue serving as a member of the Economic Development and Tourism, Regulated Industries and Utilities, Transportation and Urban Affairs committees.

“We must continue to invest and innovate to keep our competitive edge and remain the number one state for business,” said Lt. Governor Cagle. “I know Sen. Lucas will thoroughly examine the issues before the Appropriations Committee and look for new opportunities to support the 26th district and move our entire state forward.”

Once a piece of legislation is introduced in the Senate, it is assigned to a committee, depending on its topic.  If the committee gives the legislation a “do pass” recommendation, the proposed law is sent to the Rules Committee for consideration. The appointed chairs will oversee the operation and order of Senate committee meetings, including calling for action on bills, resolutions or other matters assigned to that committee.

The second session of the 154th Georgia General Assembly convened on January 8, 2018, at the Georgia State Capitol.
