Sen. Charlie Bethel Releases Statement on HB 242 Bill Signing

HB242_signingATLANTA (May 2, 2013) – Sen. Charlie Bethel (R – Dalton) has released the following statement regarding the signing of House Bill 242 today:

“I’m proud of the Special Council on Criminal Justice Reform, the Georgia General Assembly and the numerous groups and individuals who invested in this great effort to change our state’s outdated juvenile court proceedings. The measures outlined in HB 242 will bring existing code up to modern standards, protect procedural due process and ensure family preservation and proper representation. By focusing on the specific reason for juvenile court intervention, we will be able to identify how to get these children the help they need in order to move forward and become responsible adults.

I’m grateful for Governor Deal’s support and was honored to be present as he signed this important bill into Georgia state law today.”
