ATLANTA (February 9, 2017) | Sen. Burt Jones (R –Jackson) sponsored Senate Resolution 45 recognizing the John Milledge Academy Trojans football team on their 2016 Georgia Independent School Association (GISA) State Championship.
“It is an honor to welcome and congratulate the John Milledge Football team on their GISA State Championship,” said Sen. Jones. “Today was special for many reasons. We recognized a former UGA football letterman and teammate of mine, Coach J.T. Wall, and his team on their undefeated season. I am proud to have these young men commended for their heart and commitment on and off the field. We also acknowledged the benefits of SB 309. Because of this bill, John Milledge Academy was able to play their cross town rival, GMC Prep. This game enabled the community to gross the largest proceeds from a football game ever. These proceeds benefit the entire community and I am proud that SB 309 enables cross town rivals to play these games.”
SB 309, which allows schools in different high school associations to play each other, was passed last year and adopted in July.
