Sen. Bruce Thompson Urges Georgia House of Representatives to Pass Senate Bill

ATLANTA (March 21, 2018) | Sen. Bruce Thompson (R – White) today expressed concern with the status of a bill he authored, Senate Bill 403, which would require Georgia to begin the transition to secure paper ballots for all elections.

“Georgia is one of only five states that is still using unsecure electronic voting machines for elections,” said Sen. Thompson. “Citizens across the state have raised concerns and are demanding that we take action. It is unacceptable and unconscionable for us to do nothing. I am hopeful that the leadership in the Capitol will provide the governor with a bill he can sign to protect our democracy. Georgia led the push in 2016 to create the ‘SEC Primary’ to increase its role in national elections, and we cannot mitigate that progress by allowing the legitimacy of our elections in Georgia to be questioned by unsecure, unverifiable machines. With the 2020 election on the horizon, this bill must pass this session to protect the vote of all Georgians.”

The intelligence community and election officials across the country were recently joined by the U.S. Senate in calling on states to expedite the transition to paper ballots.
