Military Scholarships Available for Young Georgia Leaders

ATLANTA (February 7, 2017) | Georgia legislators, including Sen. William Ligon (R – Brunswick), have been asked by the University of North Georgia (UNG) to nominate promising young leaders for the Georgia Military Scholarships.

“It is a privilege to share scholarship opportunities with students in our community,” said Sen. Ligon. “I encourage all interested high school seniors from the Third Senate District to take advantage of this incredible offer and apply before the deadline.”

Scholarship applicants must plan to pursue a bachelor’s degree from UNG and serve as a commissioned officer in the Georgia Army National Guard for at least four years after graduation.

In order to receive a nomination, applicants must have been accepted to UNG in a “regular admit” status, have a minimum cumulative high school GPA of 3.0, be a legal resident of Georgia, meet the physical and health standards for serving in the Guard, and have a written recommendation from a Georgia Representative or Senator.

There are 42 full scholarships that will be awarded for 2017. The application deadline is March 1, 2017. For more information on how to apply for the Georgia Military Scholarships and to find out if you or someone you know will qualify, please visit www.ung.edu/cadet/scholarships.
