Governor Deal Signs Bill that Could Cut Cherokee County Property Taxes

ATLANTA (April 13, 2012) – On Thursday Governor Deal signed the local homestead option sales tax legislation authored by Senate Majority Leader Chip Rogers. This plan could eliminate the County portion of the property tax for Cherokee homeowners.

“The passage of this measure will earn Cherokee County the distinction of having some of the lowest property taxes in the state for home owners,” said Rogers. “The Homestead Option Sales Tax would also make Cherokee County one of the lowest property tax locations in the entire for our seniors.”

This measure would allow Cherokee voters the opportunity to eliminate the county government portion of the property tax on homeowners. The Homestead Option Sales Tax is a more fair method of collecting taxes. It provides real and significant tax relief to Cherokee County Homeowners while making sure that everyone using county services will contribute.
