Deep Water Well Approved for Flat Creek Public Fishing Area

Deep Water WellATLANTA (August 16, 2016) | Sen. Larry Walker III (R – Perry) is happy to announce that Georgia Department of Natural Resources Commissioner Mark Williams has approved funding for a replacement deep water well for the Flat Creek Public Fishing Area. The estimated cost for the project is $135,000. The former well was damaged beyond repair by lightning.

The purpose of the well is to maintain the lake level during extended periods of dry and hot weather conditions to ensure year-round access to the lake for the public.  If the lake level drops substantially (10+ feet), the boat ramp and the floating dock are not easily accessible and usable. This project will alleviate this issue.

“I commend DNR and Commissioner Williams for approving and funding this important project,” said Sen. Walker. “This area is important to our local community, attracting visitors from across the region, and I am delighted that this needed improvement is going to be made. Families visit this area to fish, hunt, enjoy nature and spend time together so it is important that we maintain and develop it. I look forward to working with DNR on future projects to enhance this area and our local community.”

The Flat Creek Public Fishing Area is located in Perry, Georgia in close proximity to Interstate 75 and is the most used of all of the Public Fishing Areas in the system. It is a multiuse area with a 102 acre lake, boat ramp, kids fishing pond, archery range, mixed hardwood/pine deer hunting stands, dove field, restrooms, picnic tables and a fish cleaning station. The lake is home to largemouth bass, bluegill, redear sunfish and channel catfish. Visitors (age 16 and older) fishing in this area must have a valid Georgia Fishing License and WMA stamp.
