Senator Fort to Give Testimony at Federal Reserve Bank Friday

WHAT:           State Sen. Vincent Fort (D-Atlanta) will give testimony tomorrow during a public hearing at the Federal Reserve Bank regarding the Community Reinvestment Act.  Fort’s testimony will discuss using loan modifications as a component for measuring banks compliance with the Community Reinvestment Act.

Senator Fort Joins Rally Urging Federal Government to Increase Transit Funding

WHAT:           State Sen. Vincent Fort, (D-Atlanta) Rev. Jesse Jackson, Amalgamated Transit Union President Warren George, the Transit Workers Union and other community activist will participate in a rally urging the federal government to increase funding for transit system.

Senator Fort Supports Grady High School Student’s Acceptance, Tolerance and Love Demonstration

“I applaud the efforts of Rebecca Daniels and her fellow Grady classmates for combating the hateful protest of the Westboro Baptist Church with a nonviolent demonstration.  These students know that a message of love is the key to working through hatred and negativity.  I will support these students with my presence at Grady High School this afternoon. The Westboro Church has protested at the funeral of Marine Lance Cpl. Matthew Snyder, as well as other veterans killed in action.”

Sen. Fort’s Statement on East Point’s Late Compliance with State Audit Requirements

“The city of East Point has finally complied with state audit requirements.  I strongly urged the city of East Point to come into compliance because East Point citizens have a right to know the status of their city’s finances.   The city had deficiencies in their audits for the years 2004 to 2008.  The 2009 audit was two months late.  Hopefully, the city will maintain their compliance in the future.  I will do everything in my power to make sure that happens.”

Senator Fort Joins Community Leaders to Protest Gun Selling at Northside Pawn Shop

WHAT:           State Sen. Vincent Fort (D-Atlanta) will join community leaders from Booker T. Washington High School, Washington Park and the Vine City neighborhood to show opposition to the opening of the Northside Pawn Shop.  The pawn shop is located near Booker T. Washington High School and sells a variety of firearms, including handguns. Sen. Fort recently introduced legislation to allow cities to restrict zoning for gun dealers.
