Sen. Renee Unterman Named Legislator of the Year by the Georgia Public Health Association

State Sen. Renee Unterman (center) is congratulated by Georgia Public Health Association (GPHA) President Regina Abbott (left) and legislative liaison Scott Maxwell upon receiving the Legislator of the Year award. GPHA recognized Unterman at its annual statewide meeting in April attended by 350 association members. Sen. Unterman was lauded by the association’s officials for her efforts to improve the health of all Georgians and for her ability to successfully negotiate the legislative process on behalf of public health issues.

Bill Protecting Against Elder Abuse Passes Senate

ATLANTA (March 26, 2013) – The Georgia State Senate passed House Bill 78 today by a vote of 53 to 0. Carried in the Senate by Sen. Renee Unterman (R-Buford), this legislation would expand the penalties for individuals engaged in the sexual or financial exploitation of the elderly. Hope Eligibility Bill Passes Senate

ATLANTA (March 22, 2013) – The Georgia State Senate passed House Bill 131 today by a vote of 44 to 5. Carried in the Senate by Sen. Renee Unterman (R-Buford), this legislation would enable Georgia students taking dual credit courses to receive the same treatment as those taking advanced placement (AP) and international baccalaureate (IB) courses when determining HOPE eligibility.
