Sen. Orrock Announces First Women Entrepreneurs Day

ATLANTA (March 4, 2010) – Sen. Nan Orrock (D-Atlanta) will announce the State Capitol’s first Women Entrepreneurs Day on Monday, March 8 to recognize Georgia’s nearly 200,000 women business owners.  In addition to a delegation of women entrepreneurs, Sen. Orrock will be joined by Felicia Joy, founder of Ms. CEO Media Inc., a fast-growing multimedia company in Atlanta that provides insight and inspiration for women entrepreneurs.

Working Families Legislative Caucus Promotes Solutions to Address Revenue Shortfalls

WHAT:           State Sen. Gloria Butler (D-Stone Mountain), Sen. Nan Orrock (D-Atlanta), Rep. Virgil Fludd (D-Tyrone), Rep. Debbie Buckner (D-Junction City), Rep. Roberta Abdul-Salaam (D-Riverdale), Rep. Brian Thomas (D-Lilburn), Rep. Rick Crawford (D-Cedartown) and Rep. Stephanie Stuckey Benfield (D-Atlanta),officers and members from the Working Families Legislative Caucus will present policy solutions to address state budget shortfalls during a press conference on Thursday, Feb. 18 at 1 p.m.

Sen. Orrock to make Announcement on Protecting Georgia Youth from Abusive Military Recruiting Practices

WHAT: Sen. Nan Orrock (D-Atlanta) will join Rep. Stephanie Stuckey Benfield (D-Atlanta) tomorrow at the State Capitol to announce a resolution to protect Georgia youth under age 17 from military recruitment, and to provide safeguards for those 17 and older.  They will be joined the ACLU of Georgia and other activist organizations.

Sen. Orrock Joins Legislative Delegation in Washington to Urge Action on Health Care Reform

ATLANTA (June 19, 2009) – Sen. Nan Orrock (D-Atlanta) this week joined a delegation of state leaders on Capitol Hill to deliver a letter to the White House and Congress urging comprehensive health care reform within the year. The letter, which was signed by over 700 state legislators from 48 states, including Sen. Orrock and 12 other Georgia legislators, called for the federal reform bill to include the choice of a public health insurance option, strong affordability protections, and shared responsibility for health care costs.

Sen. Orrock Joins U.S. Rep. John Conyers in Support of Universal Health Care Legislation

ATLANTA (May 29, 2009) – Sen. Nan Orrock (D-Atlanta) this week joined U.S. Rep. John Conyers (D-MI) in a series of events around Atlanta to encourage support for Sen. Conyers’ universal health care bill (House Resolution 676). Dubbed “health care for all” legislation, the bill would create a publicly financed, privately delivered health care system that improves and expands the already existing Medicare program to all U.S. residents.
