ATLANTA (February 16, 2012) – We are now at the midway point of the 2012 session and only 10 days away from Crossover Day, the last legislative day for bills to move between the House of Representatives and the Senate. Many bills have already transferred and some are on their way.
ATLANTA (February 9, 2012) – The Georgia Senate today passed SB 333, which requires a notice of sale be sent to the borrower before a foreclosure sale can occur. The bill passed with a vote of 48-0 and was sponsored by Sen. Jesse Stone (R-Waynesboro).

Now that we are in our fifth week of the 2012 session, there are many bills under review by committees. Some have already passed the Senate and are now heading to the Governor’s desk. This week, I’d like to highlight some specific legislation passing through the committees on which I serve.

The 10th legislative day kicked off to a bustling start with the unanimous passage of my Senate Bill 117. With a vote of 51-0, the Homestead Exemption passed the Senate. With so many Georgians still shouldering the financial burden of job losses and medical expenses, it is time for them to receive some hope. SB 117 offers this hope to many families who might have otherwise lost their homes. By increasing the exemptions qualified during the bankruptcy procedure, homeowners can retain more equity in their property.
