South Georgia at the State Capitol

Our newly elected Governor Nathan Deal has released his budget for the upcoming year. This is the budget year that everyone has worried about so much.  Possibly the next bright spot is that tax collections are predicted to grow by 6% for Fiscal Year 2012 starting next July.  Agency cuts of 7 percent on average coming on top of median cuts of 19 percent over the past two years will force closure of some facilities and reduction of some services.  Higher education will take reductions totaling over $300 million including zero “growth” funds for institutions showing enrollment growth.  Technical colleges also will not receive growth funds totaling $62 million and $19 million in cuts. Goggans named Chairman of Senate Insurance & Labor Committee

ATLANTA (Jan, 12, 2011) – State Sen. Greg Goggans (R-Douglas) has been named Chairman of the Senate Insurance & Labor Committee for the 2011-2012 Term by the Senate Committee on Assignments. 

Goggans will also continue as Vice-Chair of the budget-writing Senate Appropriations Committee and as Chairman of the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee for Community Health.  He will serve as Secretary of the Senate Health and Human Services, will hold a vote on the powerful Rules Committee and sit on the Agriculture & Consumer Affairs committee.

The 152nd Legislative Session of the Georgia General Assembly convened Monday at the State Capitol. 

Sen. Greg Goggans serves as Chairman of the Senate Insurance and Labor Committee and as Majority Caucus Secretary.  He represents the 7th Senate District, which includes Atkinson, Bacon, Berrien, Clinch, Coffee, Echols, Lanier, Pierce and Ware counties and a portion of Cook County.

A Time to Give Thanks

Goggans elected to Senate Republican Leadership

DOUGLAS, GA (November 8, 2010) – State Sen. Greg Goggans (R- Douglas) will serve as the new Senate Republican Caucus Secretary for the 2011 General Assembly, one of the highest ranking positions in the chamber.  Goggans was elected to this important leadership seat Friday by the State Senate Majority during the Republican caucus elections held in Macon. The United States Constitution affords us the right to vote. It is one of the most important liberties we are granted as citizens. The General Election is your opportunity to have a say in how laws are written and what changes are made to the Georgia Constitution. Even here in South Georgia, you have a say in what is going on under the Gold Dome and in the nation’s Capitol. With a major population shift to metro Atlanta and North Georgia, it is even more important for the rest of Georgia to hear your voices loudly and clearly. They should know you are paying attention.
