Sen. Buckner announces Program to Honor Community Military Organizations at the Capitol
ATLANTA (June 14, 2010) – Sen. Gail Buckner (D-Jonesboro) is announcing a program in the Senate Chamber of the State Capitol tomorrow, June 15, at 1:00 p.m. to honor the Patriot Guard Riders of Georgia and the youth members of the Griffin Squadron Civil Air Patrol. The Patriot Guard Riders of Georgia is part of a national non-profit organization of riders dedicated to attending the funeral services of fallen American heroes. As an official Auxiliary of the United States Air Force, the Civil Air Patrol is a non-profit public service organization devoted to emergency services, cadet programs, and aerospace education.
Sen. Buckner Leads the Senate to Pass Legislation to Protect Local School Systems
ATLANTA (March 26, 2010) – Sen. Gail Buckner (D-Morrow) championed legislation to a passing vote in the Senate today that cracks down on unethical behavior in local school boards. Senate Bill 426 takes action against school board members who contribute to a school system losing its accreditation.
Sen. Buckner to host Town Hall Meeting on Tax Allocation Districts
ATLANTA (March 9, 2010) – Sen. Gail Buckner (D-Jonesboro) will hold a town hall meeting in McDonough on Saturday, March 13 where tax allocation districts will be the main topic of discussion. Bob White, executive director of the Henry County Development Authority, will present information about the Tax Allocation District that is being proposed by the Henry County Board of Commissioners. The Association of County Commissioners of Georgia has also been invited to present information about legislation that is currently pending on property tax evaluations.
Sen. Buckner Announces Education Town Hall Meeting
ATLANTA (March 3, 2010) – Sen. Gail Buckner (D-Jonesboro) will hold a town hall meeting on Saturday, March 20 to present information about education issues. The program will begin at 10:00 a.m. with recognition of Henry County’s Teachers of the Year as well as other outstanding Henry County School employees who will be presented with HERO awards (Henry Employee Recognition Observance). There will also be a presentation on Race to the Top, the national education initiative that the Henry County School System has signed.
