Sen. Tarver Resigns Senate Seat after Confirmation by U.S. Senate

Stop Metal Theft Task Force created to Combat Rising Tide of Metal Theft

State Leaders speak out to raise awareness of new local effort to crack down on rampant criminal problem

EAST POINT (January 27, 2009). – Georgia General Assembly leaders banned together today to crack down on rampant metal thefts around the state and in hopes of calling attention to this nation-wide issue. State Senator Jack Murphy (R-Cumming), chairman of the Senate Public Safety Committee, announced the formation of the Stop Metal Theft Task Force to combat the rising problem of recycled metals being stolen from homes, cars and even graveyards. Senate Bankruptcy Homestead Exemption Study Committee Continue Reform Discussion

ATLANTA (December 22, 2008) – State Senator Ed Tarver (D-Augusta) called to order the Senate Exemptions for the Purpose of Bankruptcy Study Committee’s second meeting Thursday at the Capitol. The panel heard testimony from Chapter 13 bankruptcy and mortgage industry representatives who believe any revision to the current homestead exemption policy in Georgia, currently at $10,000, need to be approached cautiously and with provisions. Senate and House Economic Development Committees Discuss Georgia’s Housing Market

ATLANTA – (December 10, 2008) Co-chairmen State Sen. Chip Pearson (R-Dawsonville) and Rep. Ron Stephens (R-Savannah) held a Joint Economic Development Committee meeting at the Capitol today to discuss the condition of Georgia’s housing industry. Committee members were joined by experts in the economic, building, and real estate industries to focus on how the market is affecting local industries and what can be done at the state level to ease the downturn.

Senate Bankruptcy Homestead Exemption Study Committee Discuss Key Issues, Possible Reform

ATLANTA (November 25, 2008) – State Senator Ed Tarver (D-Augusta) called to order the Senate Exemptions for the Purpose of Bankruptcy Study Committee’s first meeting today at the Capitol. Banking and legal representatives spoke to the committee describing their view on the current homestead exemption policy in Georgia and whether the state statue needs to be revised.
