Senate Majority Leader Champions Bill Protecting Teachers

ATLANTA (February 23, 2012) — Senate Bill 153, sponsored by Sen. Chip Rogers (R-Woodstock), has passed the Senate 51-0 with overwhelming bipartisan support. The bill requires that written documentation be provided to teachers, administrators, and contract employees who have been terminated or suspended only for financial reasons, specifying such as the reason for their termination or suspension.

Rogers Named Most Influential Georgian by Most Georgia Trend Magazine

ATLANTA (February 6, 2011) –Georgia Trend Magazine has honored Majority Leader Chip Rogers (R-Woodstock) by naming him one of the “100 Most Influential Georgians”. The list honors the state’s most powerful and influential citizens, drawn from business, industry, government, politics, education, science and the arts. This is the 14th edition of Georgia Trend’s 100 Most Influential Georgians.

Senate Majority Leader Chip Rogers Leads Education Reform Rally during School Choice Week

ATLANTA- (Wednesday, January 25, 2012) Today Majority Leader Chip Rogers (R -Woodstock) addressed more than a thousand Georgia charter school students and supporters at the State Capitol during a rally to increase educational freedom throughout Georgia. Schools in attendance included Cherokee Charter Academy, Ivy Preparatory Academy, Pataula Charter Academy, Greater Atlanta Adventist Academy, Fulton Leadership Academy, Heritage Preparatory Academy, Center Academy, Fulton Science Academy and School for Children.

Senate Majority Leader Introduces Broadband Investment Equity Act

ATLANTA (Monday, January 23, 2012) – Today, Majority Leader Chip Rogers (R-Woodstock) held a press conference at the State Capitol to announce the Broadband Investment Equity Act (SB 313). The primary goal of SB 313 is to protect taxpayers and encourage private investment by requiring local governments to engage and educate its citizens through public hearings and special election prior to starting a new communications network.  Additionally, the local government must solicit RFP’s from private providers and show fiscal responsibility through a cost-benefit analysis of its plan.  The Broadband Investment Equity Act bill asserts that when a government entity provides a broadband in competition with a private business, it must play by the same rules that apply to private business.

Rogers Elected First National Chairman of Majority Leaders Conference

ATLANTA- Senate Majority Leader Chip Rogers (R-Woodstock) was recently elected by members of the State Legislative Leaders Foundation to serve as the first National Chairman of the Majority Leaders Conference. The Majority Leaders Conference is part of the State Legislative Leaders Foundation. By way of position, 99 Majority Leaders will participate in the conference, which is slated to be held in 2013.
