A Citizenry Dependent on Government

There is a startling number of Americans who rely on government services these days.  Approximately one in eight people receives food stamps, totaling a record enrollment of more than 41 million recipients in July.  Over 4.4 million people depend on welfare.  Millions live in government housing, and even more will soon rely on government as their sole provider of health care.  Where Americans used to look to their community, family or church for help, they now turn to the newest bureaucratic program.  (more…)

New Health Care Provisions are merely a Placebo, not an Actual Cure

DAWSONVILLE (October 7, 2010) – Like the dreaded winter flu that takes hold ache by ache, health care reform has gradually begun seeping into the American bloodstream.  While Congressional House Republicans are pledging to repeal the entire health care bill, in the meantime the first wave of provisions has already kicked into gear.  Though a few of the new changes may be beneficial to some, they are part of an overall reform package that expands government intrusion in the health care marketplace and hurts an already ailing economy.  Following is a breakdown of the changes that are taking effect:

DAWSONVILLE (September 10, 2010) – As autumn approaches, the North Georgia Mountains are gearing up for a busy fall season.  Our beautiful mountain communities play host to a variety of activities in the fall, from the Ellijay Apple Festival, Oktoberfest in Helen, Gold Rush Days in Dahlonega and of course my personal favorite, the Dawsonville Moonshine Festival.  These experiences are made all the more unique with Georgia’s touch of southern hospitality.  Our ability to make anyone and everyone feel welcome is a quality that can give our state a competitive edge in tourism.
