Narcotic Treatment Center Legislation Receives Approval from Georgia House of Representatives

ATLANTA (March 17, 2016)  |  Legislation that would place a temporary moratorium on the acceptance of new applications for licensure of narcotic treatment centers passed the Georgia House of Representatives on Tuesday, March 15. Senate Bill 402 would also create a state commission to study the current licensure process, as well as the density of currently operating narcotic treatment centers within the state. The legislation was filed by Sen. Jeff Mullis (R – Chickamauga) out of growing concern over the number of Georgia’s narcotic treatment programs and the documented increase of heroin addiction. Sen. Donzella James to Host African Diaspora Day at the Capitol

ATLANTA (March 17, 2016) | Sen. Donzella James (D – Atlanta) sponsored Senate Resolution 1218 to name Tuesday, March 22, 2016 as African Diaspora Day at the state Capitol. In celebration of the resolution, Sen. House Bill 725 Passes Georgia State Senate

ATLANTA (March 15, 2016)  |  Legislation that would require a court order for the release of child abuse records was approved by the Georgia State Senate today. House Bill 725, also known as the “Child Abuse Records Protection Act,” also expands the definition of “child abuse” and adds child advocacy centers to the list of entities allowed to release these types of records. Sen. Renee Unterman Receives Voice of Gratitude Award

ATLANTA (March 8, 2016)  |  Sen. Renee Unterman (R – Buford) was honored with the Voice of Gratitude award on March 5, 2016, for her work to end child sexual abuse. Her work was recognized by Voice Today at the organization’s annual Legacy Ball, which was held this year at the Georgia Aquarium. Sen. Unterman was one of five individuals honored with the award.
